Heating manifolds with stopcock

The adjustable version of heating manifolds useful for correctly balancing installations

The heating manifolds are a choice of heat distribution systems within the home network and civil construction. They are also commonly called multiple derivation devices, as they have a number of derivations on the central body that can vary from 2 to 4: in this way they are able to supply the radiators and other thermal devices. The fundamental parameter of choice is the required flow rate calibrated on the diameter of the reference body, but the type of system considered is also important. In modern domestic systems there is now a widespread application of heating manifolds, which we can find in the version with or without tap, both present in the GNALI BOCIA catalog.

Advantages and disadvantages of manifolds with regulation valve

As for heating systems, it is preferable to use adjustable manifolds because they allow a better partialization of the flow and, therefore, a better balancing of the system itself. With reference, instead, to water and sanitary management systems, both types of collectors can be used with alternate advantages and disadvantages:
- Manifolds with regulating valve: they allow the closure of every single derivation and in this way favor possible maintenance operations.
- Manifolds without adjustment valve: although not every single derivation can be managed, this type of device allows for lower pressure drops and optimal pressure levels for the user.

The materials of the manifolds with regulating valve

The version with regulating valve of the heating manifolds is made starting from a hot-forged raw material, made of CW617N brass, a family of lead-brass that can be easily processed on machine tools thanks to the presence of lead (2-3%) which shortens  shavings and also facilitates the finishing operations. Furthermore, the manifolds are nickel-plated before being processed with modern numerical control machines that guarantee the respect of quality and precision requirements. The adjustment valve, a component necessary for the flow regulation, is also made of brass with EPDM gaskets.

The models available in the catalog of Gnali Bocia

Within the Gnali Bocia catalog we find a wide range of choices both for manifolds with regulating valves and for manifolds without this valve. In particular, as regards the first category, it is possible to find manifolds with 35 mm or 40 mm wheelbase, with 2, 3 or 4 derivations. As for the derivation connections, there are both ½ "connections, even in the flat seat, and 24x19, but in any case, they must comply with the ISO 228 standard for threaded connections.
The adjustment valve is present in two models, depending on whether the collector connection to the main network is ¾ "or 1".
Moreover, in the catalog there are different colored labels to indicate the manifolds and also the knobs can be blue, white, red, green and black.
A last device that can be useful is the set to adapt to the multilayer pipe: inside there are the rubber holder, the ogive and the nut. This set can be functional to make connections that could otherwise be difficult to make.

Why choose a manifold system for heating?

Manifold systems for heating are often used in the civil field for the construction of thermal systems inside buildings and residences. The manifolds are components normally built with an incoming and an outgoing derivation and, to minimize the extension of both, we try to place them in a barycentric area, which means at the minimum possible distance to avoid waste. and reduce the circuit length. One of the limitations of this type of systems is, in fact, the need to build two different circuits before and after the manifold. Net of this aspect, however, there are some important advantages in the choice of manifolds for heating:
- separation of different zones: compared to classic systems, a manifold allows you to create different circuits for thermally independent zones;
- it provides simple fittings and smaller pipes compared to other systems, limiting maintenance and replacement operations by specialized personnel;
- better thermal output of the circuits thanks to the use of high efficiency terminals;
- it allows you to adjust different temperatures in different areas of a system;
In any case, the simple use of a manifold does not allow all these advantages, if a targeted and careful design of the heating system is not carried out. Using the correct formulas for balancing and calculations to optimize the system is the most correct solution to fully exploit the potential of this component.
